Why Rooted Soul?

Similar to the understanding that part of therapy is to be able to “rewire our brain” & its responses, I’ve long imagined that we can “rearrange our roots”. Not remove them or even change them, but shuffle them around in a way that has us feeling more stable, standing confidently (unafraid of how the next storm might knock us over), and grounded in who we are & what we’re growing toward.

Have you ever spent time around redwoods? It’s humbling in all the best ways. My favorite experience of them is the morning after a storm. As previously stated, the imagery etched in my soul, is the steam pouring out from within them, dancing through fresh sun beams, breathing new life into the air.

‘A rooted soul, not unlike the breathing redwood tree after a storm, stands tall in reflection of what they have endured. It grows stronger with each added ring of self-knowing, and its connection to those around it. And they literally are connected to their “family-trees” around them. Even when it’s burned, it’s through this loss that promotes continued growth. It not only survives the elements, but thrives through its instinctive adaptability, reaching daily toward the sun.’ That’s us, in my humble opinion, grown from potential to take on life in the wild.

Roots are profound avenues of getting to know ourselves…. Perhaps you feel entangled in yours; not knowing one chapter from the other. Perhaps you feel you've outgrown your environment (i.e a relationship, unhealthy patterns, a job that isn’t serving your needs any longer) and feel at risk for getting “root bound”. Life often will signal us when it’s time for transition, growth, and all the discomfort that comes with it.

Even when we resist it, somehow… our roots find a way. I appreciate mine for that.
